My kids…

I have been reflecting on the special moments when my kids look at me. I thought a quick video would be a good reminder for me the next time I don’t pay attention to the depth behind each expression my child shares with me. During the process God met me. I love how He interrupts our journey to speak and remind us of truth. For me it was that even though I quickly forget the special moments He gives me with my kids, He has never forgotten anyone of the expressions of my face when I look to Him. He is faithful, He sees me, enjoys me, is proud of me, and loves to laugh with me. He has never forgotten.

I hope that my kids will always know how much their dad loved and loves them and that he treasures every moment with them.

I trust that He will also encourage and remind you of special moments with Him and others.

A big shout out to Carlos Whittaker and this post. It was the still images in his video that started me down this road…

An Interview With My Princess Esther

An Interview With My Princess Esther

You’ve probably seen the many surveys people pass around on facebook. I’ve actually never filled one out. However Naomi did a little survey with Esther (Our 5 year old daughter) about me. To be honest I was a little nervous to read it. Why? Kids are brutally honest and they know you better than most. Maybe something for you to do with your kids.

1. What is something dad always says to you?
he always says he loves me
2. What makes dad happy?
when we share stuff with him
3. What makes dad sad?
when we don’t listen
4. How does your dad make you laugh?
mmmmmmmmmm…sometimes by looking at me
5. What was your dad like as a child?
um, probably playing with his favorite yellow truck. that was his favorite actually. that’s what nana said.
6. How old is your dad?
probably like 90 (lol)
7. How tall is your dad?
um, probably 6 ft. long (wow! nice shot in the dark!)
8. What is his favorite thing to do?
uhhh, spend time with his whole family…will you ask me next time what i like to do??
9. What does your dad do when you’re not around?
uh, sometimes he just plays video games and makes coffee and eats treats
10. If your dad becomes famous, what will it be for?
what’s famous again mean? (people know who you are) um, he cares and he loves Jesus and he cares about truth
11. What is your dad really good at?
ummmmmm, he’s really good at making food (really?)
12. What is your dad not very good at?
um, singing
13. What does your dad do for his job?
he works and he pays money
14. What is your dad’s favorite food?
um, chuck e. cheese food (you’re reaching girl!)
15. What makes you proud of your dad?
when he always hugs me and says “hi”
16. If your dad were on TV, who would he be?
um, he would be Beth Wardon (ha ha ha…she’s a radio announcer on a Christian Radio Station Shine FM)
17. What do you and your dad do together?
um, we read stories and “knight” each other and sometimes we turn off all the lights and put the candles on like they had in the castle in the knight book.
18. How are you and your dad the same?
um, because we look the same and we care about the same
19. How are you and your dad different?
uuuuum, cuz he has big ears
20. How do you know your dad loves you?
because Jesus has been telling me, and he always says that to me.
21. Where is your dad’s favorite place to go?
uh, chuck e. cheese (i think she’s trying to send a message here)
There are so many things I love about this. I love my Esther and I love that she loves Jesus!
Wanna share some interesting things your kids or other kids have said about you?

Make a Toy Dart With Weeds in under 10 Seconds

dartsSo I realize that my blog is often on the “heavy” side.  So I thought I would try and write some more about things that happen with our family. So, here’s how I impressed my kids with some totally useless knowledge.  They did have fun with it, even if it only lasted for 5 minutes, but Dad was “cool”…not that we do things to be “cool” , right?  :)

So, what fun, but useless tricks have you taught or shown your kids. i would love to hear them so I can impress my kids further with useless skills.

Should be fun to read.

A girls four words that marked me forever. "Do you love me?"

Naomi and i have been sponsors of two great kids through Compassion International. Every couple months we get a letter in the mail from our kids.  I say our kids, because they are part of our family. Our own children love to draw pictures and write notes back to them and treat them as their own unseen siblings.

I’ve been really drawn to the situation that many of these kids live in. And not only the physical need, but emotional need to be loved and cherished and taken care of.  Meriam, is our newest sponsor child and in her latest letter she ended by asking, “Do you love me?” My heart broke when reading that, and it is still breaking thinking and writing about it now. Yes, Meriam we love you very much and hopefully one day we will be able to meet you.

I know there is a lot of need right here in our city and our neighbourhood. And I’m the last person who wants to guilt people into anything, but I have been trying to be more open to His leading in my life and I felt I should share Meriam’s 4 word question and let it mull and sit in your mind as it has for me since I read that over a month ago now.

I read a lot of books, and i know lots of sites give reviews and recommendations. I’m not into giving huge reviews of books, but I have started to list what I am reading and my one or two line thought on the book. (and you can probably judge the personal impact a book had on me by how much I blogged about what I learned through it, but I don’t traditional book reviews.) If you decide to purchase a book i happen to be reading we would be grateful if you used the Amazon link through my reading list as we will use 100% of the commission to help support Compassion.

Digg!
